Metformin should not be given to those greater than 80 years old unless their renal functions are regularly monitored. There is a risk of drug accumulation and lactic acidosis in those with renal impairment.

How is this metformin absorbed and/or metabolized ? (How does the body eliminate it?)
Metformin is absorbed 50-60% if fasting, and 40% if food is taken. If administered orally 90% is excreted in the urine.
