A narcotic antagonist

Prevents or reverses the effects of narcotics

NARCAN – PRIMARY EMERGENCY INDICATIONS
Altered conscious state and respiratory depression secondary to administration of narcotics or related drugs

NARCAN – CONTRAINDICATIONS
Nil of significance in above indications

NARCAN – PRECAUTIONS
1. If the patient is known to be physically dependent on narcotics, be prepared to deal with a combative patient after administration
2. Neonates

NARCAN – SIDE EFFECTS
Symptoms of narcotic withdrawal:
1. Sweating, goose flesh, tremor
2. Nausea and vomiting
3. Agitation
4. Dilatation of pupils, excessive lacrimation
5. Convulsions
