George W. Bush is the Republican candidate for president. His opponent, Al Gore is Vice President of the United States. Medicare and Medicaid are two very important subjects that have to do with Health Care. Bush has many new ideas to try to and help poor seniors to be subsidized. He believes that Medicare prescription drug coverage should be available to low income seniors. According to Bush, Gore has a plan called “Mediscare”, which hasn’t worked for 8 years, and Bush wants to change that.
(Issues2000. org) Bush wants to enforce the Rx plan, so that the elderly can get prescription drugs when they need them, for cheaper more affordable prices. The Rx plan works by Patient Rights are another big issue because Health Care Maintenance Organizations (HMO’s) often put profits before patients. Bush wants to create a review board to review HMO complaints. (Bush2000. org) He thinks that the elderly should have a choice about they’re Health Care, the bureaucrats shouldn’t.
Bush doesn’t think its right that other people decide on the people’s Health Care, that the people should decide themselves. There will be private alternatives and state reforms. They will come first. HMO’s should cover visits to the emergency room, and to the gynecologist. George W. Bush thinks that patients should be able to choose their own coverage if they are not satisfied with what is currently serviced for no extra cost at all. Patients should be able to sue they’re HMO’s if they are hurt because of it or denied treatment.
(Bush2000) The children’s Health Care Insurance Program(Chip’s) will help the children who need Health Care by creating more options, including cheaper prices for the parents when the kids are sick. It is aimed at lower income families with children. More kids will be able to get health Care because of this. Also for small businesses there will be a tax credit worth 25% of premiums paid by people who pay for their own insurance by themselves and they will be available for the whole insurance by themselves.
In some people’s opinion Bush isn’t the best candidate for president, and he is just using the fact that his father was a former president to his advantage. He says that he wants to help get more health coverage for everyone from children, to low income families, to the elderly and one can believe that all his intentions are good, but he needs to approach it differently. He needs to be more specific in his intentions, telling how he is going to do what he proposes. Prescriptions for low income households are also a good idea, but he needs to tell how he’s gonna get them the care they need.
Patent Rights are the way it should be because no one should control what happens to you but yourself. You should be able to choose your own Health Care provider if you if you want, because you are the one paying for it. Senior Citizens need more Health coverage these days and incentives are a good way to get them to join a provider. An HMO board created to view the HMO complaints is a good idea because something may be going on on the inside, and something might be wrong, so it needs to be checked out.
Gore focus’s on other possibilities of Health Care, and does not deal with the elderly and children, who are in need of health insurance more. (Bush2000. org) (Issues2000. org) Bush’s Idea’s for Health Care well thought out but he needs to explain them more. He needs to so that the people who are interested in the issues, and interested in voting for him can know what are his ideas on the issues. Many good things would come from Bush being president but Gore has good intentions too. Maybe if Bush’s point on the issues were clearer, then maybe his change of loosing would be slimmer.
