We are now facing a world of modern technology. With this, medications are now dramatically coming out and being invented for obvious reasons. Back in the old days, people, mostly women die of diseases and illnesses that have no cure. In fact, more often than not the sickness is undefined. Today, more and more medical researchers are discovering preventive vaccines and treatment, if the purpose is not to cure. In this essay, Gardasil Vaccine or shots will be briefly discussed or explained. Its objective is to define and understand this particular treatment and what its purpose is for.

It will be shown and revealed whether or not it is or can be a treatment to cancer or not. Also, advantages and disadvantages for this vaccine will be presented in this essay. Summary: Let us define what Gardasil and what it is for. Gardasil is a vaccine that helps prevent the cause of Cervical Cancer. “There is now a vaccine that prevents the types of genital human papillomavirus (HPV) that cause most cases of cervical cancer and genital warts ( “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” ). ” “Gardasil is used to prevent genital warts and cervical/vaginal cancers caused by certain types of human papillomavirus in girls and young women.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause genital warts, cancer of the cervix, and various cancers of the vulva or vagina ( “Gardasil”). ” Although Gardasil shots are intentionally for women of age, who have already had genital warts, and it is also recommended for girls and teens from ages 11 or 12 years of age. “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends Gardasil for all girls ages 11 or 12 years old. Gardasil is also recommended in girls and women ages 13 through 26 years old who have not already received the vaccine or have not completed all booster shots ( “Gardasil”).

” However, there is a limitation to this vaccine. Women or girls who have cancer of the cervix cannot have this shot or treatment as this not considered as a cure for cancer. HPV vaccine is important for those who are sexually active women. There are a number of types of HPV that can be infectious. Though there are types that subside on their own, however, there are some types that can cause cancer of the cervix for women. “There are about 40 types of HPV that can infect the genital areas of men and women. Most HPV types cause no symptoms and go away on their own.

But some types can cause cervical cancer in women and other less common genital cancers (“Centers for Disease Control and Prevention”). ” Advantages: “Gardasil is the only cervical cancer vaccine that helps protect against 4 types of human papillomavirus (HPV): 2 types that cause 70% of cervical cancer cases, and 2 more types that cause 90% of genital warts cases. Gardaasil is for girls and young women ages 9 to 26 (Gardasil, human papilomavirus Quadrivalent). ” Gardasil is not only for women but for young or teenage girls. This is good to be able to prevent genital warts and cancer.

Until when should women take precautions in protecting themselves to diseases? Do they have to wait until they catch something before doing anything? “This vaccine has been licensed by the FDA and approved by CDC as safe and effective. It was studied in thousands of females (ages 9 through 26 years) around the world and its safety continues to be monitored by CDC and the FDA. Studies have found no serious side effects (“Centers for Disease Control and Prevention”). ” This type of protection is safe and has been tested and recommended by doctors and physicians.

Because of the emerging information on healthcare, more and more women are being educated on possible illnesses they can get and acquire through age or having various activities and lifestyle. “You may receive Gardasil even if you have already had genital warts, or had a positive HPV test or abnormal pap smear in the past ( “Gardasil”). ” Although it was mentioned earlier that it cannot cure those who have cervical cancer due to HPV relations, but this vaccine can be taken and received by those who had genital warts in the past. Disadvantages:

Although Gardasil is a vaccine to protect women from cervical cancer and from other genital wart cases, there are some disadvantages, like the following: the vaccine can’t be given to those who are allergic to yeast, to pregnant women and is not a treatment for cervical cancer. “Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients of Gardasil, including those severely allergic to yeast, should not receive the vaccine. Gardasil is not for women who are pregnant. Gardasil does not treat cervical cancer or genital warts (“Gargasil/ Merck and CO,Inc)’.

This vaccine is not so much effective to women who has had more than one HPV types. It can only prevent women from acquiring cancer or genital warts and is not a cure. ” The vaccine is less effective in preventing HPV-related disease in young women who have already been exposed to one or more HPV types. That is because the vaccine does not treat existing HPV infections or the diseases they may cause. It can only prevent HPV before a person gets it (“Centers for Disease Control and Prevention”).

” Since the virus can reoccur even after having been treated, the vaccine’s effectiveness is slim. However, the vaccine is not a substitution for women’s Pap Smear and pelvic tests for Cervical Cancer. Women still must be vigilant in taking responsibility and care for their bodies and its condition. “Gardasil should not be used in place of having a routine pelvic exam and Pap smear to screen for cervical cancer (“Gardasil”). ” Also, Gardasil, though a protective measure for women on having genital warts and Cervical Cancer, this should not be mistaken as a protection for STD viruses.

“Gardasil will not protect against sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, HIV, syphilis, and trichomoniasis (“Gardasil”). ” Conclusion: As mentioned earlier, medical examiners, physicians and researchers or institutions are becoming more and more aggressive in finding cures and treatments to certain and various illnesses and conditions, especially for women and children. Because of these discoveries, women are place and put at ease knowing that there is a treatment that can be given and taken to protect themselves from diseases that could lead to a life’s tragedy.

Cervical cancer is the most common illnesses among women today, and knowing that there is a way to combat this sickness, much more prevent cervical cancer from happening gives a certain security and ease to women. But no matter how advanced and great out medical inventions and innovations are, if women do not take pride and responsibility on caring for their bodies and knowing or educating themselves about their bodies, all this medical trends will be worth for nothing.

Visit your physician regularly and routinely take the tests and examinations to screen for cancer must always be maintained and considered. .
