Computer, a modern electronic device taking input from external sources to process this with its pre-program logic to give some desired output (Taxaly 4), can give many benefit to nursing department of medical science. The high speed, the high accuracy, the diligence and the capacity to store large data etc. characteristics of the computer can be used in nursing to provide aid to the patients by installing computers at proper places. In future the use of the computer in nursing will not only be in offline with efficient database of the patient but also on online services with the patient abroad.
Ajuwon has said, “Improved efforts such as inclusion of computer education in medical and nursing curricular and establishment of computer laboratories are required to increase the student’s access to computers and Internet. ” According to Thede “To excel in today’s health care practice, you need to make computer competence a priority. This invaluable guide will take you from the basics of using your machine to nursing knowledge accessed via databases and health care information systems.
” The computer can be used to prepare a database of the patients to keep their history for better understanding and care in future. This database is easy to access, analyze and compare. The technology can be used to reduce the medication errors, which provide safety to the patient (Gozdan). The computer can be used as artificial simulation to give proper training to the nurses in medical science. They will learn all the require treatment and care on computer with the help of animation and other electronic equipments.
When taking such training they will feel like real situation in their training laboratories. The nurses will acquire essential skills with these modern days system of health care with advance technology. In future with the use of offline and online huge worldwide resources with the help of computer, the nurses can make themselves up-to-date with most of the required information and can do their work with more confidence and accuracy.
