I have decided to select Cereals grains and pasta using the key word “rice”. I later selected rice with “white, long-grain, parboiled, enriched, cooked”. The size of the food is 100 grams and the composition is as follows; carbohydrate 26. 05g, protein 2. 91g, lipid 0. 37g while the calorie content of the food is 123 Kcal. Some of the most common vitamins and minerals in the food item are as follows; calcium 19mg,iron 1. 81mg,magnesium 9mg, phosphorus 55mg, potassium 56mg, sodium 2mg, zinc 0. 37mg manganese 0. 354 mg, selenium 9. 3 mcg while the common vitamins are thiamine, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6, and choline.

Other important nutrients are amino acids such as leucine, glutamic acid and arginine. Seventy percent of the food is water (70. 36 g of 100g food) and water is very important in our life because every vital organ in our body depends on water so as to be able to function properly and to its optimum capacity. The composition of our body is about 70 percent water hence if we lack water we tend to get dehydrated. The highest category of biological molecule in the food is the protein and this is simply because of it various amino acids components.

The structure of this molecule depends on the type of amino acids. Protein is basically made up of four different aspects; it can be describe in terms of its primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structure. The basic unit of protein which is the amino acid is made up of a central Carbon atom which is bound four other different atoms such as Hydrogen atom designated (H), an amino group nitrogen, a carboxyl group carbon and the fourth part which is usually a specific side chain that normally distinguish one amino acid from other.

The functions of proteins 1. Protein function basically to serves as the building block of the body and also help repair any damaged part of the body 2. Proteins in form enzymes help to catalyses different chemical reactions why in form of hormones help to regulated various hormone dependent reactions 3. It also serves as a source of energy 4. It helps keep the skin, hair and our nails healthy

Having considered the various components of the white rice, I would like to recommend it to the consumers basically because of the carbohydrate and protein content. These two macromolecules are very important in the body simply because carbohydrate provides the energy we need in the body and protein is required in every phase of growth for normal body growth and functioning.
