Family medicine

Pursuing my career in medicine is just the first step in my plan. I would like to have the opportunity to take a bigger role in making the world a better place to live. My main philosophy in life is to lead by setting an example. I cannot expect others to do what I myself would be willing to do but that does not mean that I cannot hope that others will see the example that I have shown them. This philosophy is one of the many forces that drive me to pursue my dream of pursuing a career in nursing and of becoming so much more in life.

The chance to help those who are less fortunate in life, the chance to help those in need, the opportunity to be of service to humanity; these are the reasons why I have selected medicine as the profession that I will pursue; for, as Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams…” I realize that these Studies do not only require an individual to expend a lot of time and effort on the academic workload required to compete the degree but also require a major financial investment.

Having graduated from the Kazakh National Medical University in Almaty, Kazakhstan on, 2003 I have always been determined to seek the best opportunities in life. I feel that this is an advantage for me because of the support and motivation that it provides. Doctors are charged not only with the care of one’s body but also the spirit of the patient. Mens sana in corpore sana, as the saying goes. I believe that my background as an international doctor will make it easier for me to adapt to a different culture.

My medical training at this medical institution will definitely provide me with the training and advantage I need in order to practice my profession successfully in the (intended location) where I intend to practice. My exposure and experiences with other cultures and races is a definite advantage in this field. As the world continues to change and the workplace becomes more and more challenging and competitive, it becomes imperative for anyone looking for a successful career to not only have the drive to succeed but also the training and expertise to do so.

I am not saying that I do not have the training and expertise at the moment but I do believe that there is still room for more. A good exemplification of this fact would be when I had taken courses such as comparative anatomy, vertebrae physiology, genetics, and organic chemistry in order to really help define the world of medicine to me. It was here that I gained invaluable knowledge about the relationship between doctors and their patients.

It also gave me an opportunity to personally interact with patients and understand the value of a doctor to its patients. Perhaps one of the more significant experiences that I had was during the time when I shadowed a fellow Doctor from the United Kingdom. He took me in for some patient procedures, showing me how a cardiac catheterization is performed, how cardiac stress test is taken and even how an echocardiogram is conducted. This experience opened my eyes to the many possibilities in medicine and renewed my commitment to pursue this career.

I realize that these are some of the medical treatments that require a lot of training and I am more than willing to devote my time and energies in the pursuit of such. I have always wanted to help change the world. As a child, I believed that if everyone did their own little part in taking that extra step to help others, the world would be a much better place for everyone. The stark reality of it all hit me not long after that but it did not lessen my resolve.

I figured that if so many people I knew did not want to do their part in changing the world then I would probably have to do their share. This is where my motivation to pursue medicine comes from; the drive to go the extra mile just to make a difference in this world. There are few jobs and professions that are as rewarding as medicine. While other jobs may get more publicity, the role that doctors play in the health care industry is highly valued and appreciated.

My motivation has to do with the fact that the medical profession is one of the ways by which I am able to do something that I really want to do in my life and that is to care and help other people. While I personally believe that “there is no such thing as a free lunch” and that everything a person has in life must come from hard work and perseverance. There are those, however, who are unfortunate in life and therefore I also believe in helping others who do not have much in life. This has led me to a point in life that many people have not. I have made a firm decision to recommit myself to pursuing my dreams.

While there are those who believe that with an ounce of luck and a ton of persistence anything can be accomplished, I believe that there is no reason to expend so much energy and rely on luck. I believe in taking hold of my destiny and carving out a future for myself based on the decisions that I make in life. Life is simply too short and too precious to be left to luck alone. I move forward and dedicate my career to ensuring that preventable losses do not happen to anyone in the future. This is why I have chosen to apply for this residency at this prestigious institution.
